Beauty Blog of The Week:- My Fashion Slash Life
My Fashion Slash Life was born in July 2011 and I originally started it to document my move from London to Berlin. I have worked as an international freelance fashion stylist and writer for six years and I use my blog as a way to focus on the aspects of fashion that I am most passionate about, which I couldn’t write about for my commissioned jobs.
This has resulted in my blog being more about style (in both womenswear and menswear) and my tips on how to have style on a budget, as opposed to expensive luxury designers, ‘Which Celebrity Wore It Better’ and the latest fashion trends. I tend to indulge fully style and make-up wise at night, and I love the mystery and decadence that night time brings, so my blog tends to focus more on evening style.
My Fashion Slash Life gives me the opportunity to build on certain things I love doing, for example I love to interview creatives who fascinate me, and so on my blog you can read the various interviews I have had with creatives based around the world.
I also use my blog to reflect how particular films, musicals, songs, musicians, and how my African culture have all played a part in shaping my personal style and beauty regime, as well as a select choice of my commissioned projects.
It is my aim to make the fashion industry more accessible to ‘civilians’ and I use my blog to propel this- for e.g. in my ‘Ask Biki’ section; I deal with fashion and style related questions from both men and women. Furthermore, when I entered the fashion industry, I did so with no formal fashion training and I had to learn the ropes through experience and doing a hell of a lot of research! So now I use a section in my blog (‘My Two Cents’) as a means to advise fashion stylist beginners.
Lastly I love taking and looking at pictures and so my blog is very image- based, so I always tell people that even if you are not interested in style/fashion, if you like looking at pretty pictures then you can flick through the pages!
