How To Apply a Fake Tan

As we are learning just how dangerous the suns UV rays are, more people are seeking fake tanning products to give their skin a beautiful, golden look. These products are safer, quicker, and oftentimes a more effective alternative for tanning your body. Although, if you plan on using some of these fake tanning products, you need to follow a few basic rules in order to get the best tan possible.
Before you start lathering your body down with the artificial tanner, you need to prepare your skin. The first step in preparing your skin is to take a warm shower and use an exfoliation cream on your body. The pores on your skin will trap dirt and oil and if they aren’t exfoliated, they could cause blotches when you apply the artificial tanner.
The next step in preparing your skin is to shave. Don’t just shave your legs and be done with it, but instead shave your arms, underarms, legs and anywhere else you plan on using the tanning product. If you forget to shave, the tiny hairs on your body will interfere with your tan.
While not everyone does this, I recommend placing a small amount of vasoline over your fingernails and toenails to prevent them from staining. You could also use gloves if you don’t have any vasoline on hand.
After you’ve given yourself plenty of time to dry off, it’s time to start the tanning process. If you’re using a cream, then you can simply rub it into your body using a circular motion, starting from your feet and working your way up. You should instantly see how dark the cream is turning your skin, so this will give you an idea of whether or not you need to add more. If you’re using a spray tanner, go back into the shower and start spraying, working from your feet to your neck. You might have difficulty trying to target your back, so you may want to wait until you have a friend available who can help you.
Once you feel like you’ve thoroughly applied it over your body, step out of the shower and look at yourself in the mirror. If you see any areas that you missed, you should go ahead and lightly spray over them. You may also need to spray extra on your elbows, knees and behind your legs, as these areas often require more tanning product in order to darken.
Now that you’re finished, you need to wait for the tanning solution to dry. You can read the label on the back of the product to determine how long it takes to dry, but typically you can expect to wait around 45 minutes to an hour. Yes, you have to walk around in your birthday suit for about an hour before it dries.
Applying a fake tan isn’t difficult, but you do have to follow some basic rules. Prepare your skin first and take your time applying the product. When it’s done right, you’ll get tons of compliments on your beachy-tan!
